Fine Motor Skills (FMS)
Fine Motor Skills are learned by a child when they use muscles in their hands, fingers, and wrists. FMS are skills that impact the precision of movement. The development of FMS are important for a child write, hold, button clothing, eat, and many other activities.
Gross Motor Skills (GMS)
Gross Motor Skills are movements of larger muscles in the arms, legs, and torso. Children used their GMS to walk, run, climb, and crawl. In addition to movement, GMS are related balance, coordination, body awareness, physical strength, and reaction time.
Visual Motor Skills (VMS)
Visual Motor Skills are crucial in the development of visual process skills, visual perceptual skills, and “hand-eye” coordination.Visual processing skills refers to the ability of the eyes to move and collect information. Visual Perceptual Skills is the ability to rationale the information our eyes receive, and hand-eye coordination is the ability to use the rationalized information to manipulate and organize items. VMS allows a child to recognize and visual shapes, figures, and objects. Moreover, VMS are the foundation of writing, coloring, and many other important activities that impact a child’s life.
Self-Care Skills (SCS)
Self-Care Skills are skills that allow children to become independent and mature. SCS include organizing materials, body control, and task performance.
Sensory Integration
Children with sensory integration issues have trouble organizing and may have a hyper or hypo sensitivity to stimuli.
